Bound to Outlast
Satisfaction wasn't finishing the register. It was knowing whose hands would open it next.
On September 8, 2026, President Mahama swore in Ghana’s first Independent Fiscal Council — five members, a four-year mandate, tasked under new law with scrutinizing government spending before it goes wrong rather than explaining it after. He called it a moral obligation to present and future generations. It comes three years after Ghana defaulted on its external debt and asked its own bondholders, many of them ordinary savers and pensioners, to accept less than they were owed.
I kept the oath out of the frame. What’s here instead is the part that happens with no one in the room — a new ledger, hand-bound to outlast whoever’s currently in office. One hand is still stitching, building something for hands not yet in the room. The other has finally earned the right to just rest.
