No one here was walking toward the same place.
On September 2, 2026, a report from eastern Chad described dozens of Sudanese refugees from Marra camp walking roughly twenty kilometers through heavy rain and strong winds to the town of Amliouna, demanding aid after four months without food or cash support — days after a storm tore through shelters at nearby Mile camp and left children and the elderly without cover.
What I kept returning to wasn’t the distance they covered, but a place too unsettled to resolve into a single direction.
